Welcome to my world
Hello, I’m Richard. I’m a psychotherapeutic counsellor and I live and work in Brighton and Hove. If you’re curious about who you could be working with, let me introduce myself and share a few things about my professional and personal interests.
Professional stuff about me
As a therapist, my core interests revolve around wellbeing, the art of living, and helping people live lives that are purposeful and meaningful. I’m currently developing an agency-oriented account of wellbeing – the Wellbeing Calculus – that draws on ideas from:
- experiential psychology
- continental philosophy
- virtue ethics
- the capabilities approach to human growth and development
- interpersonal neurobiology, and
The Wellbeing Calculus highlights what we all need to live the lives we want to live, and the means to make it happen.
I’m also interested in the link between therapy and education and I’m developing a whole series of therapeutic learning courses to complement counselling and psychotherapy.
Personal stuff about me
In my personal life, I’m a husband, a friend, a musician, and a songwriter. I’m also an advocate for diversity and inclusion, and I champion human rights and environmental sustainability at every opportunity. When I’m free, I enjoy film, philosophy, literature, and the arts. I also like to just sit back and take it easy. But most of all, I enjoy good company, good conversations, and the good life.
More professional stuff about me
On a more serious note, you can check my bona fides on the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy register here, my Counselling Directory profile here, and my listing on Psychology Today here.
In the meantime, I look forward to meeting you in the very near future.
